Winlink Capability

DEVELOP YOUR CAPABILITIES

A key emcomm capability for both Colorado ARES and the Colorado DHSEM AuxComm Unit is the ability to communicate digitally within our organizations and with our partner agencies. Winlink Global Radio Email®️ is the standard used by our organizations.

The system is built, operated and administered entirely by licensed “Ham” volunteers. It supports email with attachments, position reporting, weather and information bulletins, and is well-known for its role in interoperable emergency and disaster relief communications. It is capable of operating completely without the internet–automatically–using smart-network radio relays. Licensed Winlink operators/stations use both amateur radio and government radio frequencies worldwide.” -winlink.org-

The standard client for access of Winlink Global Radio Email®️ is Winlink Express. Winlink Express is available free of charge at: https://downloads.winlink.org/User%20Programs/Winlink_Express_install_1-6-1-0.zip

All CO ARES and CO AuxComm are asked to download and install Winlink Express and activate your Winlink account.

Even if you are new to Winlink or you are not able to interface your radio and computer to send messages via RF, please develop your Winlink skills. You are able to send messages in Winlink Express using Telnet (built in to Winlink Express) via the internet.
